SAN TAN VALLEY — The son of Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb is under investigation for a crash that severely injured a bicyclist this week.
Cooper Lamb, 20, was the driver of a car that struck an adult bicyclist, causing serious injuries, according to a statement from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
The Maricopa County office’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the crash after Sheriff Lamb asked the investigation to be transferred out of his agency to avoid a conflict of interest.
The crash happened Wednesday in San Tan Valley on Gary Road near Judd Road around 6:45 p.m. Following the collision, Cooper Lamb’s blood was drawn by detectives due to “potential impairment.”
“The cyclist sustained severe injuries and is currently hospitalized. The driver of the vehicle was processed for potential impairment, a warrant to draw blood was authorized and blood evidence acquired,” MCSO said in a statement released to the media Thursday. “The vehicle was also impounded as evidence.”
