For two days every January, hundreds of vendors, exhibitors, mobile eateries, artists and others line the streets of historic downtown Casa Grande for the annual street fair and car show.
The two-day event is designed as a celebration of all things downtown and, every year, tens of thousands of people attend the event to shop among the vendors, listen to live music or eat from among the varied visiting food trucks and eateries.
This year, the Casa Grande Street Street Fair and Car Show gets underway on Saturday, Jan. 21. The festival continues, without the car show, on Sunday, Jan. 22.
It’s organized and hosted by Casa Grande Main Street, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the downtown and helping to bolster activity and economic prosperity in the heart of the city.Â
The annual juried car and bike show is a favorite element of the street fair. Held on the first day of the fair, it features hundreds of classic, antique and custom cars and bikes, with vehicle owners vying for blue ribbons in a variety of categories.
It generally attracts car enthusiasts from throughout the region. In 2022, more than 200 cars, trucks and bikes were entered.
And this year, repeat visitors might notice some changes to accommodate for its popularity, according to Holly Rakoci, Casa Grande Main Street director.
"The car show will extend down Second Street, the same as usual, but we will be extending it south on Florence Street down to First Street as well," said Rakoci.
Revenue from the street fair and car show provides about 20-40% of the annual operating budget for Casa Grande Main Street.
It has taken place every year for 23 years except in 2021, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2022, new elements were added, including a cornhole tournament, community art project and other activities. This year, those activities are expected to continue, Rakoci said.
"We plan to have the cornhole tournaments again in the Main Street Alley on both days," Rakoci said.
Live entertainment is another favorite aspect of the event as various acts take the stage in the Neon Sign Park. Entertainment typically features dance groups, animal shows and musical performances all day Saturday and Sunday.
The event also includes a beer garden, kids zone and various other activities.
"There will be something for everyone to enjoy," Rakoci said.
