Arizona’s population has been growing rapidly again, and much of that change is occurring in Pinal County. According to recent U.S. Census estimates, Maricopa County led the statistics with 81,000 new residents from 2017 to 2018. Pinal County was a strong second at 15,000, while other counties had less change. Like the rapid growth of the early 2000s, the boom is mostly seen as good but also presents some challenges.
After years of little housing growth, construction in Casa Grande is booming. And the change is having an effect on the county’s assessed valuation (see editorial above).
Most residents appreciate having the growth in services that comes with the population increase, although traffic and other congestion are not so appealing.
The bubble of the early 2000s is not something we want to see again, but even then, local governments in Pinal County did a pretty good job of planning and coping. We believe that will be the norm this time also.
