News about pending approval for multiple vaccines for COVID-19 is exciting the world. The scientists associated with drug companies apparently have done something that many thought impossible, and done it years earlier, with the help of the federal government. Now Americans and people around the world can look forward to being vaccinated, with priority given to the most vulnerable, including those on the front lines of treatment or otherwise serving the public.
Meanwhile, this is no time to be careless. An upsurge in the virus must be addressed with more caution and mask wearing. However, some ideas for restricting activity have been extreme, and officials in some places with the toughest rules have shown their hypocrisy through their personal actions.
Television, with less news about the election, is filled with reports of deaths. This likely will have the effect of promoting caution, but the reports should be kept in perspective.
Pinal County schools generally have moved toward more virtual learning in the short term. That is prudent, although there is no doubt that education has been harmed by the pandemic.
We can see light ahead, but we must have some patience, and caution, for now.
