The Casa Grande Union High School District has had quite a few superintendents in recent decades, and earlier this year the district board had a relatively short window to find a new leader following a resignation. The board opted for an interim superintendent for this year and found Dr. Anna Battle. The choice proved to be an excellent one, and now the board has decided that “interim” should be dropped from her title, based on her outstanding performance so far.

Dr. Battle has had a long and strong career in education, having been a teacher and coach in the Tempe Union High School District. She later was principal of Tempe and Desert Vista high schools for 13 years and then assistant superintendent. She later was head of schools for the ASU Preparatory Academy organization. She was a basketball and track and field athlete at Arizona State and an NCAA All-American. She and her husband, Greg Battle, are the parents of four sons.

She obviously was not looking for a one-year job, and the district and its students are the beneficiaries.
