The city of Glendale has been aggressive about attracting big things, especially sports venues. Unfortunately, some of that play in the big leagues has presented problems. The Arizona Coyotes hockey team has been at odds with the city but has remained in the Glendale arena for now. The Cardinals NFL team has been a better fit because fans find travel to Glendale acceptable one day a week, usually on the weekends.

Now the Glendale City Council has approved incentives for a massive hotel and 11-acre water park. This seems to be a natural for Arizona’s warm climate and a destination that will bring many dollars to Glendale. The project is to be complete by the city’s next Super Bowl in 2023.

Dealing with professional sports teams is expensive for cities and some of them come and go. Even with baseball spring training, sports are seasonal in Glendale. Of course this year has been a challenge because of COVID-19. The water resort seems to be a clear win, however.
