Editor, Casa Grande Dispatch:
Two hundred fifty new citizens, welcome to our town, Casa Grande! May we all meet and enjoy your newly found life as citizens. How wonderful from 53 unique countries, you have come.
For many years, in a city far from here, I have considered myself very fortunate to meet like hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of immigrants, refugees and new citizens.
They have been amongst the best people I know. They are my friends, neighbors and work colleagues.
Do not be discouraged by the politics of the past couple of years. Some of the loudest voices do not represent the majority of us. Like the countries you came from, there are people who may not be generous and magnanimous. Most or all of them had parents, grandparents or other ancestors or spouses from other countries as well.
It's not easy to be an immigrant, but I hope to meet many of you and offer a personal "welcome."
