Editor, Casa Grande Dispatch:
I agree with Mr. Marsh’s opinion that the Democratic Party of old is dead. (Casa Grande Dispatch, Feb. 29) Most honest Republicans would agree that the Republican Party of old is also dead. Both lost their hearts and souls to corporate America and big money. What we have under President Trump is the consolidation of corporate feudalism in the name of the Republican Party. What Democrats would have under Democrat Biden is the same but with a more polished veneer of respectability.
While corporations serve a valuable purpose in our society and everyone is entitled to make as much honest money as they can, neither corporations nor wealthy individuals have a right to own our government. “Draining the swamp” should mean removing the influence of big money from government and the political process. The opposite is happening under Trump and will continue under Biden. Already swamp dollars are flowing to both campaigns from major swamp dwellers.
Sanders is the only candidate for president who offers a departure from control of our government by corporations and big money. Sanders has refused big money and is successfully financing his campaign through legions of small donors. He offers fundamental change for workers and the middle class in his proposed policies of climate change, health care as a right, education through college as a right and more. His goal is a return to a government of, by and for all the people. Sanders is the only candidate offering what is needed to breathe new life and new heart and new soul into the Democratic Party and into America and America’s body politic.
