Editor, Casa Grande Dispatch:

As with many others, I’m sure tired of the negativism, half-truths and lies from both sides and at all levels during this political season. I would like to submit a happy and “feel-good” story for the letter readers.

In the last wind storm, my American flag in front of our office building here in Arizona City got all tangled up on top of the flagpole and I couldn’t get to the top to get it untangled. I called the Arizona City Fire Department (non-emergency of course) and asked if they could bring their bucket truck down and give me a hand, which they of course agreed to do. Under department policy, they brought the fire truck also in case they got a call. As I was working with a firefighter to untangle the flag, I heard a blast from the fire truck siren and looked around to see a 4- or 5-year-old boy grinning from ear to ear as he was getting a tour of the fire truck from another fireman. As we finished with the flag, I again turned around and saw the boy walking away with his mother proud as they both could be. But wait, the fireman called him back and presented him with a red plastic fireman’s hat. That boy walked away 10 feet tall!

One small act of kindness brought so much joy to that little boy, and this man too.

The Arizona City Fire Department does so much for this community and especially the youth of the community, but I wanted to share this story with all of you.

Way to go, Arizona City Fire Department.
