Editor, Casa Grande Dispatch:
On July 30, President Trump signed into law the Legion Act, and the National Charter of the American Legion was immediately changed from having seven eligibility eras to two eligibility eras, subject to the same limitations as before.
With President Trump’s signature on the Legion Act, the extension of the ongoing declared period of war was extended back to Dec. 7, 1941.
What this means to the local American Legions is that those veterans who were honorably discharged, but whose service did not fall into the previously defined war eras, may now join the American Legion.
Membership in the American Legion Auxiliary shall be limited to grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives, and direct and adopted female descendants of eligible members of the American Legion.
