Editor, Casa Grande Dispatch:
Last week Dave White Park was a beehive of activity. A large pickleball tournament took place; there were Rent A Cans, garbage receptacles, booths for registration, a beer garden and parking galore. The city expanded the existing parking space by adding a large parking facility to the west, presumably coming out of the coffers of Parks and Recreation.
Across the road, golf continues to be in full swing with its many leagues and greens fee-paying customers. January, February and March are busy times at the course with the influx of winter visitors. On many days, golfers have to wait for golf carts, which are in short supply, and the wait can be up to or sometimes over one hour. That’s not a good thing and it can result in golfers becoming disgruntled and going elsewhere. It certainly is difficult on the pro shop’s employees.
It’s my guess that the golf course contributes a considerable amount of money to Parks and Recreation’s overall revenue. Right now it’s a dream, but it would be a good move if some of the golf course’s revenue were to be used to lease five additional golf carts and alleviate the wait time. Who knows, that dream could come true!
