Editor, Casa Grande Dispatch:

The office of the president of the United States (since “we the people” kicked the king out) has been occupied by men with different views on how the country would move forward. Some of these men owned slaves. Some did not want immigrants. Some used detention camps for people whose loyalty was questioned. Some took land away from Native Americans and put them on reservations. For all their faults, they kept the American people moving forward on issues for the betterment of the nation.

Now we have an occupant in this office who embraces, with every vitriolic word he speaks, another spike in our country's unity. He truly does not care if what he says is true or false as long as he can “trash talk” the person or persons disagreeing with him. The maturity of a 5-year-old is far better than the maturity of the current White House occupant who has surrounded himself with spurious, pusillanimous sycophants!

But he is not alone in disrupting and splintering our country; the political parties are also to blame. The ideology or lack thereof keeps the parties at odds to the point where they cannot agree or compromise on issues that benefit the American people.

But most of all “we the people” are to blame. People don’t involve themselves with politics and if they do, they are being influenced by current social media rather than credible sources. If anything should be called “fake news,” it’s social media.

The election in 2020 should be a referendum on every incumbent by voting them out of office and again every election cycle. It will take years to rid the stench of corruption, bigotry and racism emitting from the current White House and Congress.
