Editor, Casa Grande Dispatch:

I find it amazing that so many people have turned a blind eye to the published fact that Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are fulfilling their constitutional duty to actually legislate on behalf of the American people. In fact, the Democratic House majority has passed more meaningful legislation than the Republicans did while in control of the House, Senate and White House for two full years.

We all know that the U.S. Constitution unequivocally provides Congress with the duty and authority to oversee the co-equal executive branch of government. We should never forget the years that the GOP spent investigating Secretary of State Clinton over Benghazi and emails. We should also remember that instead of obstructing, Hillary Clinton herself testified before those investigating committees more than once.

The current House of Representatives has passed bills intended to protect our election security, bring about sensible gun safety measures, help farmers and our endangered environment. Led by Democrats, we’ve seen bills passed that would have reduced the cost of health care and prescriptions as well as preserve consumer protections in the marketplace. Most of these bills were fully sponsored and/or supported by AZ CD1 Congressman Tom O’Halleran.

If you’re wondering why virtually none of these bills made it to the president’s desk for signature, you need look no further than GOP Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The American people must be aware of exactly where the fault lies when asking, “Why Congress is doing nothing?” The answer is simply: GOP obstruction!

Democrats in Congress are fulfilling both of their constitutional responsibilities simultaneously: oversight and legislation. I fully expect them to continue multitasking in their work on behalf of American families and fulfill their oath “to protect, defend and preserve the Constitution."
