Editor, Casa Grande Dispatch:
I’m aware the so-named Casa Grande “Domes” located on Thornton Road south of I-8 are scheduled to be demolished, if they have not already met their fate. Once those are gone the locals can embrace a new structure in the valley to drive by, look at, write to friends about or have conversations about while having a hamburger cookout party in the backyard with relatives and friends on Saturday evening.
The “New Domes” would be that large structure PhoenixMart on East Florence Boulevard that Mayor McFarland addressed as having a very weak pulse but yet not dead during the Chamber of Commerce luncheon recently.
This same type of pulse the Domes possessed, I learned after talking to a number of people who were living in Casa Grande when they were built and years later when they languished without ever being occupied other than with people of all ages who used them illegally to hold parties in.
I have driven several times to the strip mall at I-10 and Jimmie Kerr Boulevard to the PhoenixMart office they set up there only to find there never is any person present. The new “Domes” company was also to turn this vacant mall into a large furniture outlet or something similar. Nothing they have stated has had a pulse there; the heart monitor just displays a flat line.
I also think the monitor someday will display a flat line for the new Casa Grande “Domes."
