Editor, Casa Grande Dispatch:
In the Thursday-Friday edition of the Dispatch, “Dangers of desert driving” reminded me of the ‘80s when employed in the Tucson area. I remember the large electronic billboards along I-10 between Casa Grande and north Tucson that were used during the monsoon season to alert drivers of pending dust storms.
They were used for a number of years and then one day all were removed and stored at the ADOT facility on I-8 off Trekell Road for approximately 15 to 20 years, and then they disappeared.
Now ADOT is going to be spending our tax money to install something similar to what they had. All that would have been required is to upgrade the technology on the old signs.
I now question who owns an electronic sign company here in Arizona, is friends of ADOT, and are we going to go through another recycling program by ADOT at the taxpayers’ expense?
