MARICOPA — Warren W. "Buddy" Watson II, 81, who retired from the Arizona Department of Public Safety as a sergeant, died on July 16, 2021.
Mr. Watson graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1958 and joined the Marine Corps. After serving four years active duty, he received an honorable discharge in 1962 and began working full time and going to college part time. In 1964 he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Eddy. He went on to graduate from Arizona State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology. With his schooling complete he joined the DPS Highway Patrol Division. He moved to Casa Grande when he was promoted to sergeant in 1984.
While living in Casa Grande he was actively involved with the Elks Club, an Optimist Club and was a charter member of the Casa Grande Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He retired from the Highway Patrol in 2000 and began working on his hobbies, which included learning how to play the piano, constructing World War II models and receiving a green belt in Kenpo.
He is survived by his wife; a son and two daughters, Warren Watson III, Kim Brasel and Marie Weathers; and six grandchildren.
No memorial service immediately. Burial with full military honors in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota, will be next spring, with memorial service then.
