KEARNY — Norma L. Rains, 85, of Kearny died in Mesa on July 23, 2019.
Mrs. Rains was born on Nov. 22, 1933, in Blocker, Oklahoma, to Elmer and Inez (Edwards) Cottrill. She grew up with two brothers and two sisters and attended school in Coolidge. She married Floyd Ray “Bud” Rains, and they moved to San Diego. They raised four children, and she worked as a waitress for over 30 years. They moved back to Arizona in 1978, where Bud worked doing maintenance for Indian Hills Trailer Park in Winkelman until his death in 1986. She then became an in-home caretaker.
She loved playing games, including Aggravation, dominoes and especially loved Yahtzee and UNO. She was the matriarch of the family and known for her great (sometimes crude) sense of humor, her attitude and her willingness to always speak her mind.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Malone; two brothers, Kenneth and Sonny Cottrill; and two sisters, Ruby Ramirez and Margie Fitzgerald. Survivors include three daughters, Debi Stout, Candice “Candy” Skillings and Tina Butts; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial service and inurnment on her 86th birthday, Friday, Nov. 22, at Valley Memorial Park in Coolidge, with her husband.
