CASA GRANDE — Melvin Joseph Schloesser, 80, sometimes called Ducky, Speed or Slick, died peacefully on July 24, 2019, at his home in Casa Grande.
Mr. Schloesser was born on Dec. 21, 1938, in Vail, Iowa, and was a son of Iila (Miller) and William Schloesser. He graduated from St. Ann’s Catholic High School in 1959 and married Diane Ransom of Denison, Iowa, on May 23, 1964. After their marriage, they settled in Denison and remained there for 40 years. Together they raised five children, and after his retirement from Farmland Foods, they moved to Casa Grande.
He was a kind and gentle man, loving and devoted to his family and friends. His family meant the world to him and he was an avid fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cardinals. He thoroughly enjoyed playing cards and watching reruns of westerns such as "The Rifleman," "Gunsmoke" and others.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Marleen Thelen. He is survived by his adult children, Sherry Wright of Westside, Iowa, Michael Smith of Austin, Texas, David Schloesser of Germantown, Wisconsin, Mary Allen of Casa Grande and Cathy McCrary of Pensacola, Florida; five siblings, Martin Schloesser, Madelyn Huelsing, Mary Gilligan, Michael Schloesser and Dorothy Childress; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison by the Rev. Randy Schon. Graveside service at Oakland Cemetery in Denison.
