ELOY — Manuel C. Salas, 69, of Eloy, a pastor and former mayor, died on June 29, 2021, at home.
Pastor Salas was born on Dec. 27, 1951, in Mercedes, Texas, to Jesus and Maria Salas. He graduated from Colegio Biblico Apostolic Nacional in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in Bible theology and was CEO and founder of Paz De Cristo Ministries Inc. He also was founder of Paz Pest Control and was a block watch leader for the south side of Eloy.
He was a former member of the Eloy City Council and former mayor and a chaplain for the Eloy Police Department. He opened First Christian School, Coolidge Apostolic Academy and Eloy Christian Academy and was a member of Eloy Ministerial Alliance.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel; two daughters and a son, Irene Salas of Eloy, Abel Salas of Tucson and Patricia Jenkins of Tucson; six siblings, Robert Salas of Little Rock, Arkansas, Henry Salas of Fresno, California, Roger Salas of Tucson, Angie Hernandez of Kerman, California, Mary Ellen Robles of San Jose, California, and Nancy Evans of Bakersfield, California; and a grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Navor Salas.
Service beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 7, at First Southern Baptist Church in Eloy. Graveside service in Eloy Memorial Park, followed by lunch at Troy Thomas Center, 501 W. Third Place, with an opportunity for anyone to share thoughts.
