DOUGLAS — Lynn Kartchner, 74, died in Tucson on Aug. 28, 2020.
Mr. Kartchner was born in Bisbee in 1946 to Howard and Ethel Mae Kartchner. He attended Bisbee schools and graduated from Bisbee High School in 1964. He attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a degree in mining and chemical engineering. He participated in ROTC there. He then served as a combat commander of Company A, 864th Army Engineering Battalion in Vietnam as a second lieutenant. He was responsible for building 66 kilometers of QL-1 coastal highway in Vietnam from 1970-72.
Her served with Arizona governments including those of Eloy, Goodyear and Douglas as public works director and city engineer. He also worked at ASARCO Sacaton Unit near Casa Grande and Ingersoll Rand in Seattle. He also was a licensed civil engineer and owner of Kartchner Engineering LLC. He was a member of Elks and Masons in Douglas and Douglas Rifle and Pistol Club.
He loved to hunt with his family and friends. He was an experienced gunsmith and eventually owned a gun store in Douglas. When he was a youth, he worked on all kinds of cars and could fix nearly anything. He always was a protector of his family and friends and especially of his brother when they were growing up.
He is survived by his wife, Regina Pace; two daughters, Kelly Kartchner and Lee Ann Pearcey; his mother and sister, Susan, of San Angelo, Texas; a brother, Mark Kartchner of Casa Grande; and a grandson. He was preceded in death by his father.
No memorial service immediately. Per his wishes, his ashes will be spread in his favorite hunting spot in Cochise County.
