CASA GRANDE — Kathleen E. "Kathy" DuCom, 62, of Casa Grande died on Jan. 14, 2021.
Mrs. DuCom was born in Concord, Massachusetts, on March 19, 1958, to Charles and Mary (Murray) Sawyer. She was raised in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1976. After she married, she moved to Tewksbury, Massachusetts, where she raised her family. She was active for many years in the St. William's religious education program was a eucharistic minister. Her Catholic faith was extremely important to her. She was a registered nurse and worked for many years at Lowell (Massachusetts) General Hospital in the emergency room, Ambulatory Care Unit and Endoscopy Unit. Taking care of people was her love and passion.
In August 2008 she and her husband relocated to Casa Grande. She always had wanted to live where the winter weather was nice. She said this was her forever home and she loved being in Arizona. She acclimated to the area perfectly. She would sit and read in her backyard, poolside, for hours. She loved to travel in Arizona, seeing all the beautiful places the state has to offer.
She loved to travel with her husband and friends. She was able to visit many places in the United States as well as abroad. One of her favorite trips was her 2018 journey to Rome with dear friends. She was able to go to St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Square, which was on her bucket list. For the last several years she and her husband would travel with dear friends to Major League ballparks. She loved to see the Red Sox, Patriots and her new home team, the Arizona Cardinals, even becoming a season ticket holder.
Prior to her death she worked for Maricopa County as an RN in downtown Phoenix at the Fourth Avenue Jail. It was a different role but one that she loved. She loved the people she worked with and the environment that she was in.
She is survived by her husband, David; five adult children, Timothy Bowden of Malden, Massachusetts, Lisa Smith of Methuen, Massachusetts, Ryan DuCom of Lowell, Meredith Bowden of Tewksbury and Justin DuCom of Dracut, Massachusetts; a brother, Robert Kolb of Manning, South Carolina; and nine grandchildren.
