ELOY — Jose Trinidad Chavez, 67, of Eloy died, surrounded by loved ones, on Sept. 4, 2021.
Mr. Chavez was born on June 12, 1954, in Michoacán, Mexico, and was a son of Maria Elvira Ibarra-Varela and Elijio Chavez. He moved to California in 1971, determined to make a better life for his family. He later moved to Eloy in 1976 and met and married the love of his life, Maria J. Ortega.
In 1995 after working many years as a migrant farmworker, he opened a business, Chavez Auto, in Eloy. He was known as one of the best mechanics in town, and he greeted everyone with the most genuine smile and lots and lots of jokes. He enjoyed boxing and teaching his kids boxing. He retired in 2004 to take care of himself, his family and enjoy the other loves of his life, his grandchildren. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned to everyone. He was known for his smile, his caring heart and his contagious laugh.
Preceded in death by his father and brother Genaro Chavez, he is survived by his mother; his wife; three sons, Genaro Chavez, Jose Chavez and Rogelio Chavez of Eloy; a daughter, Maria Elvira Salazar of Eloy; three brothers, Elijio, Santiago and Juan Chavez; three sisters, Guadalupe Chavez, Maria Elena Chavez and Jovita Chavez; 15 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, at Heritage Casa Grande Funeral Home. Funeral Mass celebrated at St. Helen of the Cross Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11.
