CASA GRANDE — Richard "Dick" Franz, 87, died on June 12, 2019.
Mr. Franz was born on Aug. 22, 1931, to Arnold and Cleo Franz in Dubuque, Iowa. His family moved to Tucson when he was a young boy. After high school, he joined the Navy and served for three years. He then studied horticulture at the University of Arizona. He remained a huge Arizona Wildcats football and basketball fan.
He loved to travel. He and his wife went to Singapore and Hong Kong as well as taking trips to Europe and Mexico. He had a career at Honeywell and retired in 1994 but continued to work part time for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 16 years, conducting surveys with farmers in Pinal County. He was devoted to his family and known for his soft-spoken, easy-going nature and positive attitude toward life.
He is survived by the love of his life for 43 years, Louise; a son and daughter, Mark and Francine; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wally and Arnold.
A memorial service will be held in the near future.
