CASA GRANDE — David A. "Dave" Frie, 75, a former mayor of Eloy and longtime educator there, died on Sept. 6, 2021.
Mr. Frie was born on Dec. 18, 1945, in Winona, Minnesota, to Andrew and Betty Frie. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and a teaching certificate at Colorado State College in 1968. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in June 1968. In 1973 after teaching for a few years, he completed a Master of Science in statistics at the University of Arizona. On Oct. 15, 1973, he married Roberta Frie. They raised three sons, Benjamin, Andrew and Robert.
He began working at the Eloy Elementary School District, where he served as a teacher, principal and business manager. He served for 31 years until his retirement in 2004. Active in the community, he served on the Eloy City Council and as mayor of Eloy. He also was a certified Pinal County Sheriff’s deputy. Through his community service and work as an educator, he touched many lives in Pinal County. He was dedicated to his family and known as a good man.
Preceded in death by a sister, Jeannie Hefti, he is survived by his wife; three sons; a sister, Susanne Black of Palm Beach, Florida; three grandsons; and three granddaughters. They all brought him great joy.
