FLORENCE — William “Bill” Hawkins, 69, a member of the Florence Town Council, died on March 12, 2020, after a long battle with cancer.
Mr. Hawkins was born in Florence in 1950, a third-generation Arizonan and a son of Robert Amos Hawkins and Mary (Foster) Hawkins. Raised in Casa Grande, he graduated from Casa Grande Union High School and attended Central Arizona College. He moved to Tempe in 1972 and worked in the ready-mixed concrete industry.
He moved back to Florence in 1998 and was the longest-sitting member of the Florence Town Council at the time of his death. He was a member of American Legion Post 9 in Florence.
His hobbies included woodcarving, wrought-iron fencing and gates. He was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed snow and water skiing as well as all kinds of motor sports racing.
He is survived by a son, William Wesley Hawkins: a brother, Larry Hawkins; and a grandson.
