CASA GRANDE — John “Bill” Downing, 77, died on June 6, 2019, at Banner Casa Grande Medical Center.
Mr. Downing was born on March 7, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, and was a son of Hoadly and Margaret Downing. After moving to California from Ohio, he worked for Hush Puppies footwear, where he met his future wife, Janie, in Los Angeles. They were married in 1989 at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Then in 1996, he moved to Arizona with his wife and youngest child, where he began a career at Albertsons. He retired in 2007 but found a true passion as a real estate appraiser, working until the day he died. He could never truly retire.
Besides being a loving husband and father, he enjoyed watching his beloved Arizona Cardinals, through the good and the bad seasons, and was a video poker enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years; four sons, Doug, Dave, Tony and Brad Downing; a daughter, Maya Downing; a brother, James Downing; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Lehan.
