CASA GRANDE — Beverly "Bev" Helming, 85, died peacefully at her home in Casa Grande on April 21, 2021, with her daughter Cecelia at her side.
Ms. Helming was the fourth child born to Ida and Bill George on Nov. 6, 1935. She grew up in Dillon, Montana, attended Beaverhead County High School and married her high school sweetheart, John Helming. Once he was discharged from the Army after the Korean War, they moved back to Wisdom, Montana, where they began a career in building Southern Montana Telecommunications. Besides being involved in the telephone industry, they were also very active in the American Legion and Auxiliary. In the early 1980s they became snowbirds, enjoying the warm winters in Arizona and cooler summers in Montana. After 38 years of marriage, John died in 1992 due to a long illness.
After losing John, she was fortunate to meet and marry Richard "Dick" Whittington. They enjoyed traveling around the U.S. over the hot Arizona summers and found a love in cruise lines, visiting many countries over the world. She was very friendly and was in her element being the “hostess with the mostest,” cooking for friends and family. Dick’s children were welcomed as if they were her own. Dick died after 24 years together. His children are Rich, Rita and Chris Whittington and Karen Kelly, and he had several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Cecelia Long; a son, Robert "Bob" Helming; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
Private memorial planned later.
