MARICOPA — Westbound lanes on Interstate 10 will be closed between Maricopa and Chandler over the weekend to prepare for the opening of a new stretch of Loop 202.
The interstate will be closed westbound between Queen Creek Road/State Route 347 and the existing Loop 202 from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday.
The closure is needed to remove the current signs for the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway. There will be two more closures over upcoming weekends through mid-August to remove the overhead signs for the new stretch of freeway that will take drivers from the southeast Valley to the west Valley.
The I-10 detour will take drivers from Queen Creek Road/SR 347 to Price Road to north of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway. Those going to Wild Horse Pass Boulevard will detour to 56th Street to North Chandler Boulevard to connect with I-10.
