MARICOPA — A 19-year-old Maricopa man was arrested after shooting a 2004 Acura TL.
According to a Maricopa Police Department probable cause statement, “the reporting party stated a subject identified as Hunter Mullenix fired a round striking his father’s vehicle.”
The black sedan was parked in front of the Mullenix residence on West Cydnee Drive in Maricopa when the incident occurred about 11 a.m. on March 18.
When police arrived, they quickly set up a perimeter around the house. Two people at the house told police they were in the Acura when Mullenix allegedly shot the gun at it.
“Hunter exited his residence, displayed the firearm and fired one round into the vehicle, striking the passenger seat where one of the men was located. Shortly after Maricopa Police arrived on scene, Hunter (Mullenix), along with his girlfriend, exited the residence. Officers observed Hunter exit the residence and walked directly at them,” the probable cause statement reads.
No one was hit by the round.
Mullenix was arrested and placed into handcuffs. No weapons were found on him or outside the residence.
The girlfriend told police that Mullenix and one of the victims had an argument earlier in the day.
“She stated she was at the house taking a shower when she heard a gunshot,” police records state.
She exited the shower and saw Mullenix run into the garage.
“She contacted Hunter (Mullenix), who admitted he had fired a round at the vehicle. She was in fear for her safety inside the home and reached out to her friend via text message to get her. When asked why she was in fear she stated, because Hunter has anger issues and just fired a gun at a vehicle,” according to the probable cause statement.
Mullenix was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for two counts of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct with a weapon and criminal damage in excess of $5,000.
He is held pending the posting of a $25,000 secured bond.
