MARICOPA — On Sunday morning, Maricopa Police received reports of a man with a gunshot wound in the McDonald’s parking lot.

Officers on scene located the man inside a vehicle in the parking lot and immediately rendered aid. The man, later identified as an employee of the McDonald’s, was transported to Chandler hospital but died Sunday afternoon. Police confirmed Monday the incident is being investigated as a suicide.

A vigil was held on Sunday night to remember the man, who many in the community remembered for his excellent customer service and friendly attitude. Dozens of his coworkers, friends, family, neighbors and many strangers came together to pay tribute to him at the vigil, as well as posting memorials to social media.

“I Looked forward to seeing him every time I ordered at McDonald’s,” wrote one customer on Facebook. “I’ve known him a long time. I can’t imagine why this would happen to such a positive and wonderful human being. He brought joy to people’s hearts. He will forever be missed. I really came to know him as a friend and my heart is broken at even the thought of losing another awesome friend. I wish we could turn back the clock and help him. I would have done anything to keep this from happening. You Touched my heart. Miss you man.”
