Maricopa Veterans

Representatives of Rep. Tom O'Halleran's office and the Maricopa Veteran Care Center gathered at the center's future home for a check presentation on May 18.

MARICOPA — The Maricopa Veteran Care Center (MVCC) was the recipient of a monetary donation Monday thanks to Tom O’Halleran and his Veteran Services Representative Rudy Cota.

Kent and Chrystal O’Jon, founders of the VA Health and Wellness Center, were there to receive the $1,000, which will help veterans receive counseling and support for mental health.

“Thanks to the hard work of military veteran (and) Councilwoman Julia Gusse, relations have been forged that will assist in the long-term help with PTSD issues for Maricopa military veterans,” the press release said.

Additionally, a new partnership for veteran counseling with MVCC Board Member Amber Liermann of the Maricopa Unified School District has been formed. This is part of an effort to help create a new counseling program by current board members of MVCC which include Garry Presume, Oterias Hammann and Gusse.

“In an effort to put together a quality program they are in the planning stages with other local Maricopa partners to create support groups for Maricopa veterans and their families,” said the press release.

Future meetings for Maricopa veterans will include group assessments, guest speakers and topics like PTSD, anxiety and depression.
