MARICOPA — Parents of students at Maricopa High School had a scare on Wednesday when they received voicemails and emails regarding a student bringing a weapon to school.
According to the letter sent out to parents, administration at MHS received a report that a student had brought a BB gun to school. Administration immediately investigated and was able to recover the BB gun without incident.
Though BB guns are not considered firearms by law, they can be lethal and are considered a weapon under MHS school policy. Students are not permitted to possess or carry a weapon on school grounds.
MHS is working with the student and family to impose the proper disciplinary action following the incident. The Maricopa Police Department was also notified about the incident.
