MARICOPA — A 2021 Master Gardener Training Course begins on Oct. 6.

In the 17-week course, attendees study of the art and science of growing plants in Pinal County.

Classes are on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and run from Oct. 6 through Feb. 16.

The weekly classes will be presented online via Zoom. A recorded version will be available for those unable to attend daytime classes.

Cost is $150 per person or $225 per couple if sharing materials. Materials will include the Master Gardener manual and supporting documentation for each class.

Topics include:

  • basic botany
  • irrigation
  • plant diagnosis
  • soils
  • citrus
  • vegetables
  • native plants
  • cacti and succulents
  • entomology
  • arboriculture and pruning
  • plant pathology
  • xeriscape landscaping

Enrollment is limited and preregistration is required. The deadline to register is Sept. 27.
