MARICOPA — "Tough times don’t last, but tough people do."Â
This was the message that Maricopa Virtual Academy Principal Marcus Mitchell imparted to 38 seniors preparing to start a new chapter.Â
The virtual academy celebrated the graduating class of 2022 on May 19 in a ceremony attended by many family members and friends, according to a Maricopa Unified School District press release.
Mitchell said it was a "proud moment," and reminded students to "continue to stay the course and block out the noise" to reach their goals.
Superintendent Dr. Tracey Lopeman said this of the graduates' perseverance:
"Amidst the complexities of life, in spite of the obstacles and temptations, it has been your personal and unique choices that have brought you to this point. Take a moment, look around, and remember how this feels. Let this feeling be your motivation to make the right choices that get you to the next milestone."
