MARICOPA — After a long wait, the construction of the first hotel in Maricopa is finally close to reality.

The city announced the groundbreaking ceremony for La Quinta Inn, which will take place at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20. The property purchase for the La Quinta Inn, to be located at 44345 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., next to Copper Sky, was finalized on June 18. This will be the first hotel in the city limits of Maricopa.

Mayor Christian Price says the city has worked with Ak-Chin Indian Community to make this a reality.

“I think it’s a great first step, it’s something we’ve worked hard at for a long time,” Price said. “We will be able to bring corporate events, those from out of town and those who wish to use the fields at Copper Sky and give them accommodation.”

Price believes that the first hotel will lead to more in the future, along with more businesses.

“Maricopa is always about first,” Price said. “After the first comes in, more tends to follow.”

According to Price, the affordable lodging will be a “top-of-the-line design and a brand new version.”

Construction will take approximately 14 months with the hotel’s opening planned for around Thanksgiving 2020, according to the city.
