MARICOPA — Lionel Lara, a Maricopa resident, has been arrested for multiple allegations of sexual abuse of a minor.
Lara, 35, has been charged with molestation of a minor, sexual assault, sex conduct with a minor, aggravated assault, furnishing a harmful item to a minor and giving liquor to a minor, according Maricopa Police reports.
Several of these charges carry the Dangerous Crimes Against Children classification, which has serious sentencing consequences. According to Arizona law, if convicted of a DCAC charge, Lara must be sentenced to a mandatory flat prison term, meaning he would not be eligible for parole for good behavior or early release for any reason.
If convicted of multiple DCAC charges, he would serve each sentence consecutively.
The sexual abuse allegedly took place over the course of several months from February to September, according to the police report, which detailed highly disturbing behavior.
Lara was arrested at his residence and taken into custody Oct. 14.
