Community Emergency Response Team

MARICOPA — The Maricopa Fire/Medical Department will start its next Community Emergency Response Team classes on Sept. 13.

CERT will go through Oct. 20 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-9 p.m. These training classes will be in the administration building at 20340 North Estrella Parkway.

This program is "dedicated to preparing and training individuals and their families to help themselves and their community during an emergency situation like a natural disaster, terrorist attack, or any other emergency situation." Its goal during those events is to help the "most amount of people in the least amount of time" when emergency services aren't always available or will take a long time to get to a community.

In order to become a fully qualified member, the required training criteria must be successfully completed, so they're proficient in CERT duties. Once individuals are qualified, they may participate in Fire/Medical Department support functions and city activities.

Those interested can contact CERT Lead Tim Gercke at 480-710-5511 or Timgercke@aol.com or Fire Marshall Eddie Rodriguez at 520-251-0024 or Eddie.rodriguez@maricopa-az.gov.
