MARICOPA — Police arrested a 44-year-old man for attempting to lure a minor for sexual exploitation in Maricopa.

According to Maricopa Police Department records, Christopher Butts was arrested by police March 17 about 4 p.m. in the Cobblestone Farms area.

Police accuse Butts of luring a minor for sexual exploitation by offering and soliciting sexual conduct with a person he thought was a 13-year-old girl.

Police state that Butts made clear sexual references to the person posing online as a young teen.

On March 17, police say he messaged the girl stating he was in Maricopa near her residence and “he brought with him her favorite drink.”

Police apprehended Butts in the Cobblestone Farms subdivision without incident.

“Christopher was found to be in the possession of the specific drink the girl had previously mentioned through the dating application on his cellphone.

During the interview he stated he had no intention on engaging in sexual intercourse, in fact he had planned on going to the girl’s house to tell her mother and/or call the police,” the probable cause statement reads.

Butts was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center and has since been released on bond.
