MARICOPA — A 2 a.m. head-on collision along Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway Tuesday left one person dead and two injured.

Maricopa Police Department received a call reporting the accident at 1:55 a.m. on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway near Russell Road.

According to officials from MPD and the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, a white pickup truck attempted to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone and collided head-on with an oncoming silver sedan. The passenger of that silver sedan died at the scene, and the drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospitals.

PCSO is investigating the accident, and spokeswoman Lauren Reimer said impairment appears to be a contributing factor in the cause of the collision.
