MARICOPA — A man has been apprehended by Maricopa Police on suspicion of possessing stolen property belonging to A1 Pawn and other crimes after an incident on June 8.
Police were called at around 10 p.m. that evening by a citizen who reported several people in a vehicle shooting airsoft guns at them and others in the Copper Sky Multigenerational Center area.
When officers arrived, they found a vehicle matching the caller’s description with five people inside along with two stolen guns from A1 Pawn. All of them were interviewed separately.
The four other occupants told police Joseph Smith was in possession of both stolen guns when he discharged an airsoft gun at the victim near Copper Sky.
Smith invoked his Miranda rights and would not answer questions. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, weapons misconduct and possession of stolen property.
The stolen weapons in question were taken from A1 Pawn on Maricopa Road last month in a weekend overnight break-in.
