MARICOPA — A Casa Grande man is facing charges after allegedly trying to break into a Maricopa home where a family member was staying.

According to Pinal County Superior Court records, Michael A. Walker, 46, is charged with attempted burglary, attempted aggravated assault, threatening, disorderly conduct and possession of burglary tools.

At 6:38 p.m. on Sept. 14, Maricopa Police officers responded to a call of a man trying to break into a home. They allegedly found Walker trying to break a lock on the side gate of a home in the 45000 block of West Balboa Drive with a baseball bat.

Walker told officers that he had brought a crowbar to break into the home and a baseball bat for the man who was in the home with the family member he was trying to reach, according to reports.

After taking Walker into custody, officers spoke with the family member. She told officers that she believed Walker may have been having a mental health episode.

She said he started threatening her the day before. He allegedly sent her several text messages threatening to kill her and burn the house down. She left her home and came to the home in Maricopa because she feared for her safety.

She told officers that Walker was actively trying to break into the home when officers arrived.
