STANFIELD — A person was killed in a multiple-vehicle accident early Wednesday that closed the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 near Stanfield, authorities said.
An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman said that the "multiple-vehicle fatal collision" occurred at 3:10 a.m. in westbound I-8 near milepost 155 at the State Route 84 interchange.
There was an ejection and the deceased passenger from one of the rolled-over vehicles was found on the roadway, DPS said. Four patients were taken to a hospital in Phoenix. The extent of their injuries was not known.
The westbound lanes of the interstate were closed for most of the morning. The Arizona Department of Transportation reported they were reopened before noon.
The cause and number of vehicles involved in the collision was not available.
