Maricopa Community Church, 44977 W. Hathaway Ave., is holding Christmas Eve Candlelight Service and singing of Christmas carols at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24.
Christmas Day services
Christmas Day services will be held at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Community Church, 50881 W. Papago Road. There will be no Christmas Eve Service.
DSPA hosting annual ‘The Nutcracker’ Sugar Plum Tea ballet
Desert Sun Performing Arts will host excerpts of ‘The Nutcracker’ at 2 p.m. Saturday Dec. 10 at Saddleback Elementary School, 18600 N. Porter Rd. Holiday performances by DSPA’s Rising Stars preschool classes will also delight the audience.
An afternoon tea party, including a choice of hot or iced tea and lemonade with a tasty variety of yummy desserts is provided. A silent auction will also be held. Tickets available through www.eventbrite.com or at the door, if seats still available.
DSPA is seeking donations for scholarships to assist dancers in financial need. All sponsors will receive recognition in DSPA programs, complimentary show tickets and more. Fairchild Blues Tribute featured at The Lounge
Harrah’s Ak Chin Casino, 15406 N. Maricopa Road, brings great live entertainment to The Lounge. The Fairchild Blues Tribute band will be playing at 1 and 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16. The Fairchild Blues Tribute band has dazzled audiences worldwide with their amazing and uncanny resemblance to John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. ‘The Heart of Christmas’ at Maricopa Lutheran Church
The Maricopa Lutheran Church Choir will present the cantata, “The Heart of Christmas,” by Pepper Choplin, on Sunday, Dec. 18 during the 9 a.m. worship service. The cantata embraces the passion of those who lived the story. The church worships at Desert Wind Middle School, 35565 W. Honeycutt Rd. The event is open to the public and all are invited.
Santa’s Workshop shopping event

Christmas concert fundraiser for MCT set for Dec. 17
Come celebrate the Christmas Season as Maricopa Community Theatre welcomes back Matt Ortega in a private concert entitled “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” Join us for an evening of food, laughter and fun!
Matt has performed in several groups both in and out of Arizona and has received numerous awards for his singing and acting. Some of his stage credits include: Harold Hill in The Music Man; Sky Masterson in Guys & Dolls; Scrooge in A Christmas Carol: The Musical; and many more!
Let Matt’s voice guide you on a journey through some of your favorite holiday songs and show tunes. Along the way you will discover his passion for singing and performing as his voice leads you on a musical adventure through smooth jazz and Broadway belting — his style is illustrated in a charming array genres. Matt has opened up his home for a holiday salon concert.
Live music will be performed by Matt, accompanied by the incomparable Mary Ellen Loose.

Dance concert performed
“Middle of Somewhere” will be performed by the Central Arizona College Dance Company from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 in the Pence Center, 8470 N. Overfield Road. The show is free and open to the public.

Flying schedule for Casa Grande RC Flyers
The Casa Grande RC Flyers is now on their winter flying schedule. Visitors are welcome to watch the flying on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings starting about 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on most non windy mornings. The club also welcomes guests at their Fun Fly contests and swap meets on the second Saturday of each month through March. Food service is offered. Maricopa Celebrate Recovery is a Christian based recovery group for a multitude of hurts, habits and hang-ups. This group meets on Tuesday at Maricopa Community Church located at 44977 W. Hathaway Avenue. From 5-7 p.m. there is an open mic, coffee and music time and from 7-9 p.m. there is general group assembly and small groups.
Copa Seniors meeting and events
Copa Seniors, a social club that is open to all seniors 55 plus who reside in Maricopa and the surrounding area, meets the second Thursday of the month at 9:30 a.m., at the Copa Center, 44585 W. Honeycutt Ave.
On the fourth Thursday of the month, the group meets for socializing at 9:30 a.m. at the Copa Center, where tables are set up for a variety of cards, games and conversation. Holiday parties and events are in the works and all seniors are encouraged to help plan and attend these events.

The Maricopa Farmers market is open Friday evenings from 5pm until 8pm and Saturday mornings from 7am until 12pm noon. Farm fresh eggs and local produce from SLAW, Bootleggers BBQ sauce, Gattens local Honey, Hot food from Soul Food Shak and Hot SOS taco truck are available to purchase.
