MARICOPA — Soul Kitchen is a Christ-centered contemporary worship band from Maricopa. They will be performing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, at Maricopa Community Church, 44977 W. Hathaway Ave. Their primary purpose is to glorify the name of Jesus and to encourage other believers to have a closer fellowship with him.
Nothing has a higher priority for them than intimate, personal knowledge of their Savior, and it is their prayer that it will be a night of powerful worship that they would love to share with like-minded believers and also with those looking to find out who Jesus really is.
After leaving a professional singing career, Jon Barr started leading worship 15 years ago. The fellowships he served with include Reality Church Carpinteria and Central Christian Church Lancaster. Peter Trast started leading worship 40 years ago as a teenager shortly after his first personal encounter with Jesus and has served in several fellowships from California to New York. They say they began leading worship together at Calvary Maricopa in 2015 after a “chance” (God scheduled) meeting outside of a 12 step meeting where they instantly bonded over their love of Jesus and music.
They were soon joined by Ashley Warr, a young musician whose love of Jesus shines throughout her prolific repertoire of personal original music. She still leads worship at Calvary while Barr and Trast continue to lead worship in other fellowship meetings like Celebrate Recovery and wherever God opens a door. They still meet in the original “Soul Kitchen,” which is at Barr’s house, whenever they can, and they are currently working on recording some original music and existing worship favorites.
