Abstract Art

An example of abstract art being accepted by the Maricopa Arts council for its contest.

MARICOPA — With many of the festive occasions to celebrate local creators rendered impossible due to COVID-19, Maricopa artists are resorting to what they do best — getting creative.

The Maricopa Arts Council, in partnership with VWM Art, is hosting an abstract art contest that is open to the public. Called “Go with the Flow,” entries are supposed to emphasize the colors blue, yellow and red. All painting media are accepted, though there is an emphasis on acrylics.

Contestants are asked to submit a photo of their paintings, which can be on canvas and wood size 24x36 inches to 4x6 feet, to museusmaricopa@gmail.com by Sept. 25. There is no fee to enter.

The submissions will be posted onto the “Abstract Art Contest for City of Maricopa” Facebook page, where the public will vote for their favorites. The top five will then be judged by the leadership at Maricopa Arts Council to determine a top three, which will all receive cash prizes. The winners will be announced Oct. 1.
