MARICOPA — Live theater is returning to Maricopa this week.
The Maricopa Community Theatre troupe is putting on a production of the hit musical “Into the Woods” beginning Wednesday and every night through Saturday at 7.
The musical, created by legendary composer Stephen Sondheim with a book by James Lapine, incorporates aspects of several fairy tales into one world, following a baker and his wife who interact with the famous characters of those stories.
The original production premiered on Broadway in 1987 and won three Tony Awards for Best Original Score, Best Book of a Musical and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical. It has since been adapted into a movie starring Meryl Streep and James Corden, among others.
The Maricopa production is directed by David Vargas, with musical direction by Christopher Goodrum and choreography by Cassandra Jackson.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at maricopacommunitytheatre.org.
