Poetry Slam lottery

Bernard Schober, who writes and performs as The Klute, draws the names of those who won a lottery to compete in the All-Arizona Poetry Slam on Jan. 25.

MARICOPA — Local poets who might have been alone with their thoughts and creativity during recent months will finally have an audience for their craft.

The Maricopa Arts Council is calling on all Pinal County slam poets to enter its Maricopa Grand Slam, taking place in November. Twelve poets will be selected from all those who enter, and they will perform at Maricopa City Hall for a virtual audience.

Of the 12 spots, two are guaranteed to go to poets living in the city of Maricopa, while six more are reserved for the entirety of Pinal County. The remaining four spots are open to contestants Valley-wide, including Pinal County.

Entrants need to send an email to the MAC’s slam master, Bernard Schober (also known as The Klute) by Thursday to be a part of Friday’s initial drawing. His address is therealklute@gmail.com.

The Grand Slam itself will take place Nov. 14 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. More details on how to watch will be available later.
