Republicans of Maricopa meeting

The Republicans of Maricopa will be holding a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, at the Villages of El Dorado Clubhouse, 20991 N. Butterfield Pkwy.

Sen. Vince Leach and Reps. Mark Finchem and Bret Roberts will be on hand to provide a legislative and education update.

Maricopa Republican Club meets

Music Circle orchestra seeks musicians

Maricopa Music Circle chamber orchestra is planning to expand by adding new members for the 2019-20 season. Up to four varied programs are being scheduled, beginning in early fall. Especially needed are performers on violin, cello, flute, clarinet, trombone or tuba, piano, string bass and bassoon. Percussion is a plus. No guitars, please.

Musicians should be comfortable with sight-reading and be at an advanced enough level to be comfortable playing an orchestral part from a Mozart or Mendelssohn symphony. Auditions mid-July through early August will include sight-reading, performing a prepared piece, and sitting in for a full rehearsal. Maricopa Historical Society meeting

The Maricopa Historical Society will continue to meet the first Monday of the month throughout the summer. The meetings will include informal discussions of events and activities of historical interest.

Copa City Dems meeting

Copa City Democrats meet the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Copper Sky Police Substation meeting room, 17985 N. Greythorn Drive. The next meeting is June 12.

Maricopa Lions Club

The Maricopa Lions Club is on summer break. It will reconvene in September and will meet every second and fourth Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the community room at the police substation by Copper Sky. Blue Star Mothers

The Blue Star Mothers of Maricopa meet at 6:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Maricopa Veterans Center, 44240 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

Maricopa veterans

At the end of every month, the Maricopa Veterans Care Center will give a homeless veteran a life pack (toiletries, socks, underwear and more). Anyone who knows a veteran in need can email Master Sgt. Kent O’Jon at kentojon@gmail.com.

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones

Parents of Addicted Loved Ones (PAL) meets every week From 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays at 21300 N. John Wayne Parkway, Suite 103, to provide continuing education and support for parents trying to save a son or daughter from addiction to alcohol or drugs.

PAL can also help spouses who are forced to act like the parent to their addicted partner who is abusing alcohol or drugs. All other family members and friends are also welcome to attend meetings as long as they are at least 18 years old. There is no charge.

Salvation Army utility help

The Salvation Army of Maricopa assists with past-due utility bills. For help, call 520-705-6509 and leave a message. Calls are returned on Mondays or Tuesdays.

Blanket drive for Animal Care and Control

Chitwood Feed, 19884 N. John Wayne Parkway, is having a blanket drive to benefit animals at the Pinal County Animal Care and Control.

Donations needed are blankets and towels, new or used. Items can be dropped off at Chitwood Feeds during business hours.

Maricopa Healing Rooms

Maricopa Healing Rooms is a Christian organization serving the community’s physical, emotional and financial needs. It is located at 19997 N. Justin Drive. Copa Seniors meet

Copa Seniors, a social club open to those 55 and older who reside in Maricopa and the surrounding area, will meet at 9:30 a.m. the second Thursday of each month at Santa Cruz Elementary School, 19845 N. Costa Del Sol Blvd., to play a variety of games.

The center is open for games and socialization for any senior Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Volunteers needed

Hospice Family Care is seeking volunteers to provide companionship to patients and their families. Volunteers are also needed to help for music therapy, group home and special events. If you are a good listener, can read to a patient, play cards or a game, watch TV, listen to music or just hold someone’s hand, then you are needed. You are qualified if you have a desire to help. Training and mileage are provided.

Maricopa Warriors PTSD

All military veterans, first responders and others affected by post-traumatic stress disorder are welcome to join a group for free, Christ-centered discussions and solutions for combat trauma sponsored by the Church of Celebration Maricopa.

Recovery group for hurts, hang-ups

Maricopa Celebrate Recovery is a Christian-based recovery group for a multitude of hurts, habits and hang-ups.

This group meets on Tuesdays at Maricopa Community Church, 44977 W. Hathaway Ave. From 5 to 7 p.m. there is an open mike, coffee and music time, and from 7 to 9 p.m. there is general group assembly and small groups.

Meet pediatricians from Sun Life

Sun Life Family Health Center presents Dr. Stella Raposas, MD, FAAP, and Dana Rodriguez, Ph.D, APNP-BC, on the first Wednesday and third Thursday of every month from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the Maricopa Public Library, 41600 W. Smith Enke Road. This event will provide story time for the children and an opportunity for parents and adult family members to meet with local health care providers. FOTL events at public library

The Friends of the Maricopa Public Library is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to the service and support of the library with reading programs, fundraisers, a book club, scholarships and book sales. Everyone is welcome.

The group meets at 5:30 p.m. on the second Monday of every month.

There is also Coffee with Friends of the Public Library, which meets 1:30 to 3 p.m. every Tuesday. Everyone is welcome to enjoy refreshments and conversation and to get acquainted with the library.

Finally, there is an ongoing book sale every day at the library. Various types of books, including hardcover, paperback, children’s, and audio, are for sale. Videos are also for sale. Books are located inside the main entrance of the library. Donations are always welcome.
