MARICOPA — An altercation occurred Oct. 30 at Maricopa High School involving students that culminated in an injury to a school employee.
Vianna Darby, 19, was involved in a physical altercation with “several students” at around noon, according to Maricopa police reports.
A school security officer was physically restraining another student when Darby was seen running toward the security officer in an attempt to hit the student. As the security officer tried to shield the student from Darby, Darby reportedly used her two fists to strike the security officer several times on the arm, neck and head.
According to the police report, Darby stated that the security officer was probably hit during the incident with the other student.
Though the school was unable to give details, Maricopa Unified School District representative Mishell Terry said, “The school investigation is complete, and discipline was aligned to our discipline matrix.”
Charges of aggravated assault on a school employee were forwarded to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office for further review.
