MARICOPA — A student was taken into police custody after allegedly being found with a BB gun Wednesday at a Maricopa school.

According to Maricopa Police Chief James Hughes, at around 2 p.m., Maricopa Wells Middle School was on lockdown for about 15 minutes after a male student was reported with a firearm.

While other officers were arriving on scene, the department’s school resource officer “quickly” found the student and confiscated what turned out to be a BB gun without incident, and with no injuries reported. The student reportedly told police that he was going to sell the gun to another student.

The student was taken into police custody, and parents were notified about the incident.
